About Us
In February of 2011, Derek and Kelly Keepers began donating huge chocolate cakes to a weekly breakfast for the homeless hosted by a local restaurant owner in Upland, CA. The cake was such a hit that the restaurant owner insisted on paying for the cakes to keep her guests happy. After refusing money several times, Derek and Kelly suggested swapping the chocolate cake for a free breakfast at the restaurant. This first swap, along with the TOMS business model, an intriguing conversation with Derek's professor, and watching The Social Network one too many times, inspired the idea of SwapServe.
Derek, Kelly, and Derek's brother, Darren, launched SwapServe.com in October of 2011.
Why Swap?
Everyone wants to help, but sometimes there are a lot of hoops to jump through just to get started. Amazing volunteer groups are doing amazing things, but they need more peoplepower. Businesses are looking for ways to give back to their communities, and now, these businesses can reward good deeds by providing free stuff. Here's how it works:
With SwapServe, users (Swappers) can sign up for free, choose a project, decide when and how long they want to help, and then get something cool from a local business for their service.
Volunteer organizations and groups can sign up for free, post volunteer projects, and get all the peoplepower they can handle.
Businesses can give free stuff in exchange for people giving their time in the community and take advantage of the best kind of advertising: giving.
Signing up is free and easy. Give your time. Get free stuff. Sweet.
