What is SwapServe

SwapServe.com is a website where users can sign up to complete community service in exchange for free items from local businesses. Businesses are able to offer items to users through the site and volunteer groups are able to offer community service opportunities through the site. You should think of us as a high tech bulletin board. We do our best to provide quality information, but we are chiefly a place for people to connect the way you would through a bulletin board at a coffee shop, community center, or library. You are ultimately responsible for all things resulting from your participation with SwapServe.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We use the information you give us for the following purposes:

Swap Confirmation

When you sign up for a Swap, you will need to check in with the Swap Coordinator when you arrive at the service event. You must present a photo ID to be checked in. This ID will be matched up with the information you have given us on SwapServe.com, specifically your first name, last name, and birthdate. This process is intended to ensure that you receive your free items after giving your time in service to the community.

Age Verification

SwapServe users must be 18 years old or older. We use the information you give us to verify that you are in this age range.

Swap Relevance

SwapServe is designed to display Swaps that are occurring close to where you live. The information you give SwapServe is used to make this feature function properly. We may also use your past swapping information (i.e. what kind of Swaps you have done in the past) to suggest upcoming swaps that may interest you.

Informing Our Staff of What Directions to Take SwapServe

We want to expand SwapServe to communities where it will most likely be successful. We also want to make sure each community has enough Swap opportunities to fulfill demand. Thus, we may use your information in aggregate to determine where we need to set up more Swap opportunities and which communities we should expand to next.

Please note that other SwapServe users will be able to view your information on SwapServe. You may adjust which information is kept private using our privacy settings. Specifically, you may set your account to private, in which case your information will not show up when a user uses the search function. You also have the opportunity to approve friend requests before other users become your friends.

Paying Businesses Take Note

Offering Swap items at one business location is free. If you choose to offer items at multiple locations, you will be charged according to our pricing scale or contracts developed between your business and SwapServe. Payments are collected via our website using a third party Payment Gateway. Please view the terms and conditions and privacy policy of the payment gateway company for complete details. This information may be viewed by clicking on the "add locations" link on the business account home page.

Volunteer Organizations Take Note

Any information you post on SwapServe will be viewable by all SwapServe users. This includes but is not limited to contact information of Swap Coordinators, meeting locations, activity descriptions, dates of service, etc.

Required Disclosures

Though we make every effort to preserve member privacy, we may need to disclose your Personally Identifiable Information when required by law or if we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our website, (b) enforce this Policy or the Terms of Service Agreement, (c) respond to claims that your Personal Information violates the rights of third parties; or (d) protect the rights, property or personal safety of SwapServe, its members and the public. You authorize us to disclose any information about you to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate, in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringements, or other activity that is illegal or may expose us or you to legal liability.

Minors

At this stage, SwapServe requires that members be 18 years of age.

Applicable Law

By using SwapServe, you agree that the Laws of the state of California will govern any disputes between you and SwapServe.

Disputes or Controversy

Any claim, dispute, or controversy arising from this privacy policy or past privacy policies will be dealt with through negotiation, mediation, or arbitration.
